Language is important because it varies in many aspects in the living world.
The role in society are:-
1) system of formalized symbols, signs, sounds, gestures, or the like used or conceived as a means of communicating thought, emotion. For example, the language of mathematics, sign language. 2) any set or system of such symbols as used in a more or less uniform fashion by a number of people, who are thus enabled to communicate intelligibly with one another. 3)a particular manner of verbal expression 4)a nation or people considered in terms of their speech 5)choice of words or style of writing, diction: the language of poetry
Language is obviously a vital tool. Not only is it a means of communicating thoughts and ideas, but it forges friendships, cultural ties, and economic relationships.
Social changes produce changes in language. This affects values in ways that have not been accurately understood. Language incorporates social values. However, social values are only the same as linguistic values when the society is a stable and unchanging one. Once society starts changing, then language change produces special effects.
Language is important, because it helps milliions of people communicate within this world of different dialect, cultures and within this world of buisness. It is a part of speech that is important and sometimes needed for one's survival. Language is perhaps the human race's most important invention ever. It allows us to communicate with one another and spread ideas. It allows for organization, monogamous relationships, religion, and science. Without language there would be no way that humans would ever have progressed past the stone age.
We communicate our desires through language and it helps us bond with people around us. We feel belonged with people who speaks the same language as we share similar values. When learning a new language we are getting to know another culture. Through the study of a language we can know how the people think.
I think the most important role a language play in society is bridging the gap between people. The best example would be English as lingua franca. Businessman and businesswoman around the world regardless of their ethnicity, background and culture use English to do their deals and trades.
Language is an important tool of communication in many aspects. We use language to communicate among others, the media use language to project and to inform readers and people using their jargon language.Language also helps to determine different social class status.Apart from that, language also concerns how the government and politicians use language to maintain power over the people and country by using persuasive and rhetoric language.
Language is a term most commonly used to refer to so called "natural languages" - the forms of communication considered peculiar to humankind. By extension the term also refers to the type of human thought process which creates and uses language. Essential to both meanings is the systematic use and creation of sets of symbols referring to concepts different from themselves
Language is certainly important as it is a media to communicate with each another regardless age, culture and race. It is a tool where we are able to interact with one community to another in many fields such as finance, economics, trade and also traveling. As its role in society, it is a way to communicate or interact by instilling good human values. Beside that, mutual understanding and interacting well with people who are in the same frame of mind will enhance our life and will have a better understanding and peace with everyone.
Well said about language roles in society, without it we may live in world of loneliness of no communication to express our thoughts, ideas, feelings and bla..bla.. just wonder what would that be? loneliness may bring in depression, depression may bring in livelessness, livelessness may bring in ........ at your liberty to complete it according to your taste. : )
Of course language is important since the cavemens start clapping their hands, probably to convey message, to warn, draw attention and attract people around them!!! As the cavemen start evoluting, so does the language. It got roles in society as I said earlier, to convey important message, to convey news or just to talk nonsense when no ones hearing or to show the social class of people!!! Without language, there's no culture....
language is a media of communication among people around the world.basicly language show the social status among people around the world. for example, we can identify people by the way they use the language to communicate. conclusion no language, no culture......
well definetely we can't deny the importance of language in our daily life as it is the important tool we apply in order to ensure our message can be understood by others' and doesn't mean one must communicate verbally whereby by using sign languages such as facial expression, written text communication and etc is also consider apart of language.language is also vary according to one's ethic and therefore different people tend to diverse differently from each and other according to their own culture and the environment they are brought up. for instance, if an individual is fully exposed with the usage of vulgar words definetely they won't hesitate to use it widely and during this time language will play its important role by giving out its identification towards the particular person. talking about its role in the society, there are various type of 'responsibilities' should be play by language. firstly, it shows the culture of an ethnic in which each person are created differently from each and other and differnt values which is practised by an individual.for example, there are three main ethnics groups can be found in malaysia and they are different from each and other based from their language, culture, traditions and values.nevertheless, culture of a person can also be identified from the dialects.
well, through my observations in this discussion most of the answers were similar that language is a tool of communication. for me its simple, NO LANGUAGE = NO EDUCATION, NO SOCIALIZING, NO DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH ANOTHER COUNTRY, NO SURVIVAL and so many other no's and therefore it will sooner lead to no human beings. haha, a little hilarious though but its true. so language for sure plays an important role, and those who don't agree, shoot yourselves. even animals communicates in their own way!!!!
Besides using language as tool of communication starting from stone-aged era to technological era in the 21st century. the language we use shows who we are. ie. personal or individual identity is being projected by the language we used as mentioned by Kiren (17 April). Therefore, mind you language when you open your mouth. : )
In addition, Language also projects national identity. Bahasa Malaysia is the official and national language of Malaysia. Most likely, Malaysians who speak BM would feel of being associated with the people, society, territory and heritage of Malaysia compared to those who do not.
