  1. i'm a little confused with linguistic determinism and relativity. Determinism is the snow example right? Relativity is the gender example right? pls correct me if i'm wrong.

  2. Hmmm..i think you have the other way round..determinism is actually anguage determines our concepts - and we can only think through the use of concepts.Relativity however is different language speakers "cut nature up" in different ways.Example of relativity is:

    1."Eskimo words for snow"
    2.Hopi Indians: use the same word for "insect", "aeroplane" and "pilot"
    have no tenses for their verbs -
    "lightning", "flame", "meteor" and "puff of smoke" are all verbs eg "it puff-of-smoked"
    3.Zuni Indians: use the same word for "yellow" and "orange"
