I think defenitely yes.Bahasa Malaysia and english has many similarities in terms of phonetics, although bahasa's grammar is very much simpler compared to english. We now know how and why english achieved its status as a world and international language.According to Professor John F.Cooper, a distinguished professor of International studies at Rhodes College in Memphis Tennesse, bahasa malaysia is one of the top ten languages to emerge as a fastest growing languages in the world. This could probably be the fact that Malaysia,Brunei and Indonesia in terms of its economic, control the worlds tin and natural rubbers supply. All three are booming economically and no doubt will continue to do so.Very few americans study bahasa, making knowledge of the language all the more valuable. Also, according to the bahasa melayu organization in the Phillipines,Malay is already used as a lingua franca in parts of the southern Philippines today. Malay also happens to be the major or one of the major languages for many of our neighbours in south east asia.It is the major language in the Indonesia Archipelago,Malaysia,Brunei, East timor, and Singapore. There are also minority speakers of malay in countries like southern Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam and even Australians also understands malay from their high school studies.According to David Graddol,“English is likely to remain one of the world’s most important languages for the foreseeable future, but its future is more problematic — and complex — than most people appreciate,”.This could relate to the fact that because of the importance of learning english, many people have studied the language leaving the native speakers of what the native language will be in the future.
In my opinion , it can be possible provided we Malaysian as a whole should master the language .In that way, many writers and researchers will be made because all will be writing in bahasa malaysia as for others who are interested in knowing the research. In that way, more people will learn the language. Compared with the huge population in South East Asia country mainly Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei it will be a common language for them to communicate. The education system should encourage everyone to master the language in a easy way.
From my opinion BM can be attain the status of english as a world language. It is because Malay is the major or one of the major languages for many of our neighbors in South-East Asia. It is the major language in the Indonesia Archipelago, Malaysia, Brunei, and East Timur (where it is a working language) and its use is growing quickly in places like Singapore (where the impetus to make Singapore's non-Malay citizens conversant in Malay has gained ground). There are minority speakers of Malay in such places as Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam, and many Australians also understand Malay from their High School studies. Beyond these countries, Malay is studied by more than 100,000 students worldwide as a foreign language, including by Filipinos who travel to Malaysia to learn the language.
Yes, BM or any other languages for that matter can attain the status of English as a world language. But it would take a lot of effort and time to achieve it. Looking at the current situation now in Malaysia and around the world, we have a long way to go.
A few years back, the Ministry of Education decided to make English as the medium for Math and Science subjects. And that move received mixed reactions from the people. Some say it would improve the education system and some say it would be big failure. Then early this year I heard in the radio that Math and Science subjects will only be taught in English in chosen states. I wonder why? Maybe the government realizes that the students are not ready to accept the new system. What do you think?
By forming a institution whre all the countries like BRunei, Indonesia and Malaysia come in as one common goal to write all the scientific terms to enhance the language by composing all the trade in bahasa malaysia. Giving lectures in forum of interational fields where the 3 countries are specialize in certain fields so that the other countries can learn from them...
In my opinion,BM cant attain the status of english as a global language.Although malay is our national language, most malaysians are not using it on their daily life as much as English. For example, if we accidently bumped into someone, we use da word 'sorry' to apologise instead of using the malay word'minta maaf'.Why we are not apologizing in our national language? If malaysians are not fully using malay in thier daily life,it will be difficult for people from other nation to use it.This is why it is difficult for BM to attain the status of English as a world language.
Can we avoid using english now days??? Plz, think about it for a second? In my opinion, BM can't attain the status of English as a world language.... For example, in Education fields. All the notes and reference books are in english, somebody will says that it is because the researcher is a english man. Let's talk about malaysia researcher, the are writing their research in english, are they force to do it?? Then why are they doing it??? Why government suddenly decided to make English as the medium for Math and Science subjects. If this situation continues all the subjects like history, geography, will be taught in english!!! If this happen, do u think BM can attain the status of English as a world language.....
basically everyone do have their own right in expressing their own opinion regarding this matter. but personally i totally disagreed with the statement that bahasa malaysia can attain the status of english as a world wide language. im telling this based on my observation and the place i am surrounded by. for instance during our social communication we tend to speak in english rather than using bahasa malaysia but nevertheless sometimes we also tend to used the mixture of malay and english while communicating which is known as 'bahasa rojak'.besides that in educational system as well, government are concerned about the usage of english in producing knowledgeable learners and in working field those who are good in english are more preferable by an employer. apart from that, as we can see children aged between 3-7 are more advanced in english compared to adults due to the exposition in acquiring this language.
In my opinion, i think BM can't attained the status of English as a world language. I said this because BM is not really known for the whole world and the language itself is not evolved and exposed throughout the world. Nowadays, youngsters mostly used English as their main spoken language as they were exposed with the American and English languages from entertainment, sports and the spoken-language itself. Many Malaysian citizens are not really proud of their language because we are mixing with the international people as English, American, Chinese, Indian and African people. For example, when we go to shopping malls, we even speak the language of English..isn't that true?? And several people mixed the language of Malays and English as a 'rojak' language or Manglish. So, re-think back whether BM can attain the status of English as a world language.......
Yes, definitely BM can attain the status of English as a world language, fi and only if, the world agrees to attain BM as a world language, it's all depends on how we spread the BM to the other countries... If the foreign institutes can have a faculty on Bahasa Indonesia, they can also have a faculty for BM... - Kishor -
